Creating a Local Gift Card

Dine Local supports management of "local" gift cards, or gift cards that are available for use at your location. Unlike Dine Local marketplace gift cards which can be used at any location and which are paid to your location at the time of order or redemption, local gift cards are bought and purchased at your location with all funds held by your business. Dine Local provides the mechanism for balance management, customer balance checking, redemption (online and in person), and reporting, including reporting for your currently outstanding Gift Card balance exposure.

Local Gift Cards are similar to Dine Local gift cards in that they have a card "code" number which is used for redemption. Local Gift Cards can also be set up to be sent via email to the recipient and purchaser at the time of creation.

Alternatively, you can continue to use your own paper Gift Cards but write the Gift Card Code which is provided when you create your gift card in the system on the paper gift card so that the customer can use that Gift Card online or in store with a declining balance.

Local Gift Card Program Setup

You can not set up a Gift Card program for your location directly from our app. Please contact us to get a Gift Card program set up for your location. You can have multiple Gift Card programs to support different card audiences and graphic designs for the card artwork on emailed Gift Cards.

Creating a Gift Card

To create a Gift Card from the app, go to the left menu (you may need to tap the "hamburger" menu in the top left) and choose Gift Cards -> Create.

You will be taken to the Create A Gift Card page:

To create a new gift card for your customer you simply fill in this form:

  • Gift Card Type (required): Select the Gift Card Program you would like to create (most locations will only have one card type)
  • Purchaser Name (required): You must enter the Purchaser Name (prefer first and last as this is used in your own reporting)
  • Amount (required): The amount to load on the gift card (maximum $200)
  • Purchaser Email: If you provide the purchaser email, our system will automatically email them a receipt and copy of the Gift Card for their records
  • Recipient Name: If provided, the recipient name will appear on the electronic Gift Card
  • Recipient Email: If provided, our system will automatically send the gift card by email to the desired recipient
  • Gift Message: If provided, this gift message will appear in the email to the recipient and on the gift card they receive by email

Once you have collected the required information and taken payment for the Gift Card, you can click or tap the Create Gift Card button. Note that you are charged the transaction fee for each gift card created and the fee is noted on the screen. Once a card is created, we can not credit the fee for creation, which is why we recommend collecting payment prior to creating the card.

Once your card is created, the page will show all of the information you submitted with the confirmation and the new Gift Card number at the bottom:

If you are using a paper Gift Card be sure to carefully write the Gift Card # on the gift card so that it is readable by the customer as they will need to enter the number to redeem it for online orders. If you have sent the gift card by email it will be automatically delivered to both the purchaser and receiver email addresses (and if they do not receive it be sure to have them check their junk mailbox as well).
